⚖️ Staple Length: 3"3.5"      VM:  a little hay  Crimp:  wavy with high loft

🐏 This wool is from a Ram with beautiful fleece.  There is a good reason the name of this sheep is BLACK Welsh Mtn. because it is dark black with just a little sun bleaching at the tips.  The locks are very strong, dense, and bouncy.  I got this fleece at the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival so, it is a great example of a Black Welsh Mountain fleece.

🐑 Ram wool vs. Ewe:  I often hear comments about Rams having a distinct smell to them.  But I also find that each breed of sheep has its own particular scent. I don't notice much difference between Ewes and Rams.  This fleece does have a unique smell. But, after scouring, it smelled clean.  To remove the scent you may want to add some vinegar to your final rinse.
The benefit to a Ram fleece is that a Ewe uses a great deal of energy birthing lambs and milking; therefore, the wool is a secondary product.  Whereas, the Ram uses all of his energy, to produce wool.  So, the wool from a Ram is often longer, and stronger than a Ewe.

🧶 You can card or comb the wool.  It is relatively soft but durable.
Excellent uses for this wool would be for lightweight, durable clothing such as outer sweaters, mittens, and hats.

🧴I washed these locks using Unicorn Power Scour which left them clean and bouncy.
