🐑 Margaret is a ewe with mostly bright white wool with a little gray. Her fleece was so clean I had to feel it to know it was raw. Margaret lives at a beautiful farm about half an hour from my home in PA. The shepherdess has many different breeds of sheep and pays great attention to their feed and wool growth. I had a fantastic day visiting this farm and seeing the new lambs. Margaret's wool is dense, springy, and fluffy - the bag I usually get one pound of other breed's wool in, I could only squeeze in 8 oz. of this fleece.
⭐️ Herdwick has several types of fiber in its wool. A softer undercoat, guard hairs, the heterotypic hairs (which change consistency with the season: more wool-like for warmth in winter and more hairlike for shedding rain in the summer), and the kemp. This one seems to be mostly the undercoat and the wool-like winter fleece.
🧶 I would flick the locks open and spin from the lock. The wool is coarse and durable but will spin into a springy yarn.
🧴 I washed these locks using Unicorn Power Scour which uncovered the bright white with little gray areas.
