⚖️ Staple: 3.5"-4"       VM: DIRTY  Fine VM   Crimp:  Very fine, Soft, Next to Skin

🐑 Santa Cruz wool was very difficult for me to find; however, I found a shepherd with a few about an hour's drive from my home.  He said that if I agree to purchase it from him, he will have more next year.  So I do have an agreement to buy more.
The description in the Field Guide to Fleece by Deborah Robson & Carol Ekarius. Says, "One of the softest and most pleasant wools we've ever encountered...Extremely rare bread, fewer than 150 in the USA...If you ever have the opportunity to work with this unusual fiber, you may need to deal with short staples, dirt, and second cuts...With patience, you will produce a yarn with amazing elasticity."
💖 The wool is bright white under the dirt.  These fleeces are Dirty with fine VM.  About half of the fleeces I purchased are Lamb Hogget Fleeces.  Hogget is the first shearing of a lamb.  It is usually premium fleece because of its softness.  Lamb fleeces can have a break or weak spot at the tip.  It is said that this is due to the embryonic fluid.  You need to test the lock and if the tip pulls off you should remove the tips prior to washing so that they do not break off during carding and cause neps in your yarn.
I  pull the tips off prior to packing to reduce the waste and clean the wool making your job easier.  The length after cleaning is 1-2 inches.
🧴 I tested how the fleece will wash using Unicorn Power Scour and the results are stunning.  Look at the photo to see how beautiful this fleece will be.
This is an un-washed, raw fleece ready for you to scour and prepare for spinning.   You can also use this wool for wet felting, needle felting and other arts and crafts.
