🐑 April is a yearling lamb and this is her hogget fleece.  Hogget is the first shearing of a sheep and desirable because it is the softest in the first year.  April and her sisters enjoyed playing in the field as you will see by the dirt in the fleece.  A simple scouring will bring out the sparkling fleece.
The Shropshire is a member of the Down family of sheep and one of the few blackfaced sheep on the Conservation Priority List. Shropshire sheep are a heritage breed on the Watch list.
Shropshire wool is Medium & has a fiber diameter of 24.5-33 microns and a staple length from 2.5 to 4 inches. Like all the down sheep, this medium-grade wool has a springy quality that makes it perfect for hardwearing items such as hats, mittens, and socks.
I washed these locks using Unicorn Power Scour which got rid of the dirt and lanolin.  The tips are dirty, and there will be some staining on the wool.  When you card or comb the sool together the color will be more creamy white.
